Azar Andami‘ was an Iranian physician and bacteriologist. Born in Rasht, Iran in 1926, she began her career as a teacher for the Ministry of Culture, but attended the University of Tehran and graduated as a Doctor of Medicine in 1953. At first she specialised in gynaecology.

Description

She moved to the Pasteur Institute in Tehran and then to Paris to study bacteriology. She published several scholarly papers and invented a vaccine against cholera.

She died in Tehran on 28 August 1984 at the age of 58. A crater, named “Andami”, on the planet Venus was named in her honour by the International Astronomical Union.
